Synopsis
Theoretically ‘Corporate’ means ‘a characteristic of individuals acting together’; ‘a joint identity’; ‘the collective mind.’ It is a group of individuals acting as a whole, as in one business. Individuals, functioning with common sense, honesty, responsibility and fair play. An association of people that has powers but also liabilities towards society.
The film ‘Corporate’ is about a world filled with people, hungry for power and money. A world juxtaposed in deceit and loyalty, contentiousness and corruption. This film is also about how a handful of men can influence the lives of millions without them even knowing about it. It is a bitter truth about lies, lies and more lies. Situations contrived so that both sides of a coin fell in their favor. The film explores the nexus between the corporate world and politics.The sex and sleaze that lies behind the whitewashed exterior glamorized for effect. How the opening of markets brought in the international players giving rise to the competition within and taking it to serious heights where success meant everything. The bitter rivalry brought about a change in the moral codes of doing business.
Vinay Sehgal and Dharmesh Marwah are two of the leading industrialists in the country, reigning in the food sector. They are archrivals primarily because their corporations deal in similar non-durable consumer products. With the rise in competition the rivalry gets bitter.
They found out ways and means to outdo each other, constantly on the move to gather information, using means that were considered to be criminal not more than half a century ago was. The objective was to find out ways and means of complicating issues making them difficult to understand even to the right-minded and socially conscious people. The film tends to skim through the glassy and glossy surface of this yet unknown entity and to look beneath the clean and pretentious image at its darker and scarier side. It takes a look at this lesser known ‘white collared crime.
Nishigandha Dasgupta Vice President, Operations, has a dream of making it big. She has a future in mind with Monty Singh the newly inducted Vice President in FRISCON. Nishi and Monty go a long way back and they both share a mature relationship. Monty who also happens to be Sehgal’s brother – in – law, is back after a debacle of his business which he’d set up a couple of years ago in London. Nishi believes that they can take their big step with FRISCON and for them to grow they need to see FRISCON at the helm. But such setbacks would certainly deter their chances.
To add to her woes she learns that Marwah had planned to manufacture a soft drink in a couple of months, the news of which he’d managed to keep within his top brass management. Nobody in the business was aware of this dream project of Marwah. Nishi realizes to her shock and horror that if Marwah succeeded in coming up with his drink, which would be months before FRISCON launched its drink they’d be doomed.
It is a story about Marwah and Sehgal’s rivalry and the urge to outdo each other and make it to the top. It shows how Nishigandha sacrifices her own life for her love and also to save the corporation.
It is about how a giant corporate company handpicks a couple of talented top executives and puts them right in the front of a battle line. The film explores their journey as they work in the same environment and under the same roof but in a very short period end up as totally different individuals. They are led by the top guns of the company who influence their decisions, the way they think and their overall attitude towards life. They come onto cross roads where they are forced to choose one way or the other, quite aware that their decisions would influence their lives forever. It is also an internal struggle to prove oneself at the same time maintaining the integrity and sanctity of the world they belong to. Of the many shocks and surprises they experience on the way they realize many things. A fact that they realize in this process is that they had no icons, who could inspire them. They were entirely responsible for what they did.
