Synopsis
The Goddess Of Satisfaction, Santoshi Maa is to grace our screens once again. It is the ultimate victory of devotion, as Mahima enters a family determined to pull her down. However it is her undeterred devotion for Maa that helps her endure all hardship. A representation of the Maa herself Mahima, chooses to marry the man she loves and hence stands by him, motivating him to leave the shelter of his house. Anuraag leaves his home for the city to realize his dream as a singer. With his every step to success, Mahima must go through a severe test of devotion. She begins her solah shukravaar ka vrat urging the Goddess to help her. The celebration of faith is witnessed in a colourful udyapan that forms the finale of the movie. A point where the Goddess manifests herself, a reward for Mahima’s undying faith in her.
It is the story of Priety a modern day woman, a journalist that ushers in the story of Mahima. Rendering a parallel narrative the film shows that Santoshi Maa is available to all women through her vrat ritual, and is in fact, all women. Thus the story of the journalist Priety who starts out on her journey wraps the contemporary representation of the Katha.
Through subtle miracles one sees a gradual transformation of the characters in the film. The ones posing relentless opposition must finally bow to the Goddess’ divine force.
A point of identification for women all across, the character of the journalist renders the quietly mobilizing message that it is reasonable for every woman to expect, her own “satisfaction” in the form of love, comfort, and respect. Preity hence starts out as a skeptic only to be touched by subtle miracles. However the culmination of it all is not Priety’s transformation into a devout follower of the Goddess but the acknowledgment of a force more divine, powerful and inexplicable to the rational mind.
